What the Chamber does for You!

Your continued membership in the Chamber of Commerce is important to us at the Chamber, and we think it is also important for you.  We have a wide range of benefits which add value to a Chamber membership and there are several which do not require any involvement. Let me share with you five benefits which require no involvement and we believe they all have a direct positive effect on profits.

  1. Your Chamber is a business advocate, lobbyist, and "watch dog", with regards to Local, State and National Governments.  Chambers have been very influential in stopping laws from being passed that were not in the best interest of the business community and this influence has had a direct positive effect on profit.

  2. Your Chamber is constantly promoting tourism to our community.  This brings people who spend new money in the community and this has a direct positive effect on profit.

  3. You are listed in our Chamber directory which lets hundreds of people know that you are a supporting member of the business community.  Many of these directories are mailed in our relocation packages and sent all over the country, as well as posted on our web site which is available 24 hours a day, to people and businesses that are moving to our area.  I am certain that this exposure in the directory has a direct positive effect on profit.

  4. Your Chamber is the front door to our community.  We receive phone calls daily, have people walk in, people mail and email us requesting information, of all kinds, regarding our city and business community.  The only place people know to call, is the local Chamber.  This service I am certain, has a direct positive effect on profit.

  5. Chamber Members receive weekly e-News filled with articles of happenings in the business community, reports on what's happening on the legislative front, informative articles from informed people in the business community, and low cost advertising opportunities.  Receiving e-News is one more opportunity which can have a direct positive effect on profit.

Your support through annual dues payment makes these five benefits and others possible.  Consider the cost of joining the Chamber as to the cost of not joining.  Our members tell us that the cost of joining the Chamber is far less than not joining the Chamber.  If their opinion is correct, then joining your Chamber will have a direct positive effect on profit.

Organization Structure

The Chamber Directors serve 2-year terms, with the exception of the President, who serves for three years (as president elect, president, and past-president). The Board oversees the direction of the Chamber by managing the office manager. The office manager is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Chamber. To provide further direction, committees have been organized to serve particular functions. These committees must meet on a monthly basis (either in person or via phone). Those committees are:

Program/Meetings – this committee’s purpose is to develop the programs and services that the chamber will offer to provide value to its members. This includes developing each monthly general membership lunch meeting agenda and coordinating speakers if necessary. It is also charged with developing new products and services that can and will benefit chamber members.

Business Enhancement – This is the Economic Development committee of the chamber. This committee will focus on ways to recruit new businesses to DP as well as identify those businesses, which might be struggling and could use the support of the chamber and its members.

Membership Recruitment & Funding – The goal of this committee is to recruit new members and new revenues, which will allow the chamber to further fund programs and services, which could benefit the general membership.

Issues Committee – This committees goal is to seek out broader political and geographic issues and advise our members as to the effects of the issues and then to suggest a stance for the chamber to take.

Nominating Committee – This committee works on new Board of Director’s nominations and provides orientation for elected members. The president, past-president, and president-elect serve on this Ad-hoc committee.

Budget and Finance –The president, past-president, and president-elect serve on this Ad-hoc committee.

Bylaws – This committee is responsible for making sure the bylaws under which the chamber operates are followed, and to amend or add new rules as deemed necessary by the Board of Directors. The president, past-president, and president-elect serve on this Ad-hoc committee.

Materials – This annual Ad-hoc committee will be responsible for revising print and website materials.

Membership Meeting Opportunities:

Our monthly meetings are designed to provide our members with opportunities and education in a comfortable networking atmosphere, for example:

We work hard to bring speakers who will address issues of importance to business. Health Insurance, business startup and expansion, current local development, political issues, Medical Savings Accounts, Marketing your Business, etc.

We work hard to provide our members with networking opportunities. Member introductions, member welcomes, member meet and greets, etc.
